This morning Pete and I woke with different plans in mind. I wanted to spend the next two days circumnavigating Snæfellsnes. It is a southwestern peninsula that is a geological hodgepodge of everything Iceland has to offer. Pete's the one that planted the seed in my brain a few days earlier and the more I researched the more i wanted to go....
"Lush fjords, haunting volcanic peaks, dramatic sea cliffs, sweeping golden beaches and crooked crunchy lava flows make up the diverse and fascinating landscape of the 100km-long Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The area is crowned by the glistening ice cap Snæfellsjökull, immortalised in Jules Verne’s fantasy tale Journey to the Centre of the Earth."

Say WHAT internet?! Lush fjords! Crooked crunchy lava flows! Jules Verne's fantasy tale! I can't miss this stuff. Pete on the other hand is simply tired. He has driven every single day and just wants to spend the last few, fleeting moments of our vacation relaxing. With a little pleading he agrees to go, not because he gives in to my every whim or is a pushover, but because he is a super awesome, laid back dude. He is rewarded for his selflessness with hours and hours of brain battering, bumpy dirt roads. It takes us twice as long as it should to get to our destination, the town Stykkishólmur; luckily it's charming quaintness easily rivals our previous stay in the east coast town of Seyðisfjörður. After meandering by the harbor for a bit, soaking in the community hot baths and treating ourselves to a tasty seafood dinner we tuck ourselves into bed; me with anxious anticipation of our next days adventure and Pete just happy to not be behind a steering wheel.
